Hunar Construction partnered with Oscar Wylee, a rapidly growing Australian eyewear and optometry brand, to deliver their 1,500 sq. ft. retail location at The CORE Shopping Centre in downtown Calgary. This project required a meticulous build-out that seamlessly blended a high-end fashion boutique aesthetic with the stringent requirements of a fully functional optometry clinic.
Oscar Wylee’s global store design relies on an inviting, uncomplicated customer experience. The interior architecture references Australian sandy coastlines through the extensive use of curved wooden elements, custom joinery, and warm, natural tones. Rather than housing products in locked cabinets, the space is built around accessible open-shelving, allowing customers to freely browse and try on frames.
Our team managed the complete transformation of the commercial unit, coordinating all base-building trades and specialized installations to meet the brand's international standards. Key project elements included:
Demolition & Layout Structuring: Complete interior demolition of the previous unit to transition the space into a dual-purpose environment, featuring a welcoming open retail floor at the front and private eye examination rooms at the rear.
Custom Millwork & Joinery: Precision installation of custom wooden shelving, consultation desks, and curved display units critical to the brand’s visual identity. The detailing of the finished millwork and retail floor can be seen in the project documentation, specifically image_7157a6.jpg.
Electrical & Specialized Lighting: Comprehensive upgrades to electrical and data systems, incorporating backlit mirrors and targeted retail track lighting designed to accurately highlight frame colors and minimize glare.
Clinical Infrastructure: Dedicated fit-out of the private optometry rooms, ensuring the proper spatial and electrical infrastructure to support highly sensitive testing equipment, such as digital retinal scanners and slit-lamp microscopes.
Operating within a premium retail environment like The CORE Shopping Centre required rigorous logistical planning. To ensure neighboring tenants were unaffected, Hunar Construction scheduled all noisy works, material deliveries, and debris removal outside of standard mall operating hours. Through proactive project management, tight supply chain coordination, and clear communication with mall operations, the space was successfully handed over in August 2026 to support Oscar Wylee's continued Canadian expansion.
